BAS Systems Engineer/ Programmer

Corporate Overview:

Our clients provides expertise in multiple “Low Voltage” building technologies including Energy, Security and System Integrations while serving portions of Louisiana and Mississippi. They offer three major portfolios: Energy, Security and HVAC Solutions. This company has the factory support, technical expertise, and research and development to provide “state-of-the-art” products and solutions, yet as an independent partner, the corporate decisions are made locally with the client’s best interest in mind.

Position Objectives:
Using established standards, responsible for cost-effective hardware designs and software programming for HVAC control systems to meet the intent of the project requirements. Provides detailed information and submittals to communicate design and operation to customers, consultants, field installation team and subcontractors. A technical problem solver who can effectively apply their knowledge and experience in programming, HVAC controls, building systems and related fields to develop programs for DDC controllers and graphics for user interfaces. Not only will they be providing support for the field teams during system deployment and checkout documentation, but they will also assist field technicians in testing programs to ensure it conforms to the engineered design and verify that graphics meet existing standards.

Typical Accountabilities to be Measured Against for Performance:
  • Responsible for building controls design utilizing direct digital controls on a variety of building types, in regard to the electronic comfort control and automation systems
  • Responsible for obtaining and reviewing contract documents: proposals, mechanical plans, specifications, estimates, equipment submittals, etc. for incorporation into the design of an automation system
  • Responsible for hardware designs for flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill of material, network layouts, and electrical schematics in the creation of installation drawings, submittal drawings, and record drawings
  • Responsible for transitioning project documents to the field personnel. Following up with the Field Operations Supervisor, Electrical Installers, and BAS Technicians to ensure installation and commissioning meets contract requirements
  • Creating and routing project specific ASI and RFI documentation between the mechanical contractor and field personnel
  • Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned projects and prepares material for field deployment to ensure project schedule is maintained
  • Performs PLC software programming using established standards as a basis of design following the project design sequence of operation (WPT, Graphical Block, Script)
  • Create intuitive graphical user interfaces including flow diagrams, overrides, setpoints, trends, alarms, schedules, etc. to meet design and customer requirements
  • Assist BAS technicians in the loading, validation, and commissioning of large systems and network-level controllers, including installation/configuration of workstations, servers, and network to ensure proper system operation, as required
  • Gather field changes from the project team and create record drawings and software following company protocol for long-term project data storage
  • Generate commissioning sheets, operation and maintenance manuals, warranty information, and service documents upon project completion
  • Assists in performing site-specific training for owner/operator on the total system
  • Preparation of cost estimates for projects and assists BAS Technicians as required with wiring/programming, electrical terminations, commissioning, graphic development, test and startup
  • Maintain long-term customer satisfaction through service by investigating concerns, implementing corrective action, communication with staff, providing customer feedback and solutions
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of Schneider Electric Controls products, technical systems, and other product line offerings along with applicable 3rd party devices
  • Assist sales team in site surveys or development of advanced sequences of operations in conjunction with design consultants and customers to meet system requirements on prospective projects

Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Construction or Engineering Technology, or other related areas; or three (3) plus years of experience in the HVAC industry performing project management or estimating roles; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Familiarity with operation and design of HVAC Systems, Building Automation Systems, and/or Temperature Controls required.
  • Experience with building automation programming (Function Block, Graphical, or Text-based preferred) or other programming languages (e.g. C, C++, Java, VBA).
  • SmartStruxure and Tridium Programming experience preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical and network wiring and the programming of BAS components.
  • Excellent computer skills and strong understanding of MS Office products (Word, Excel, Teams); Visual Basic, Visio, Bluebeam
  • Effective interpersonal skills to represent the company to customers and other outside contacts in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Ability to travel to and work on construction sites for commissioning/startup.
  • Familiarity with the concepts of new construction and renovation/retrofit, performance contracting, and service project management preferred.
  • Experience with a drafting/ design program is required.
  • Understanding of industry standard protocol and requirements for integration preferred.
  • Understanding of IT infrastructure and network architecture
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations
