Director of Project Development

Our client is an energy services company looking to add a Director of Project Development to their growing team.

Summary
The Director of Project Development works with the Business Development team to develop projects for the ESCO market. The Director of Project Development manages and leads the project development team that identifies and calculates energy and water conservation savings. Manages the development of scope, price, incentives, tax implications and savings for clients. Manages the Commissioning and Measurement and Verification team and their approaches for each project. Must be goal-driven using a team approach to develop innovative projects. Candidates that can balance engineering knowledge and experience, creative solutions, and thorough and comprehensive problem-solving abilities will be successful.
This role is critical to the success of the Energy Solutions business unit and its continued growth. The Director of Project Development serves as a technical resource to the Business Development and Operations teams. The Director of Project Development is responsible for identifying and understanding the energy and operational improvement opportunities within a customer's facility. This position requires an entrepreneurial spirit; diversity of technical expertise; strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; and excellent customer care skills. The opportunity also provides the great career path within the energy services industry as it will cover all phases of project including sales support, proposal development, detailed design, construction, commissioning and measurement and verification of savings.
What You Will Do
  • Conduct on-site assessments in prospective buildings and develop engineering solutions to help clients achieve goals. ASHRAE Level Ill audits and preconstruction experience is required.
  • Promote business activity by coordinating, developing, and presenting concepts and preliminary technical findings, at varying levels of the project development process.
  • Assist the sales team by preparing sales proposal content to describe a set of project development solutions.
  • Define scopes and associated construction costs for the selected energy conservation measures.
  • Familiar with service, maintenance, repair, and replacement costs over life cycle of ECMs.
  • Manage and mentor a development team to calculate and model energy and water savings solutions.
  • Assist in sales presentations to our growing customer portfolio.
  • Manage a commissioning team responsible for commissioning and retro-commissioning of projects of all the installed solutions.
  • Manage the analysis of relevant data to validate the predicted savings to meet IPMVP standards; ultimately responsible for the energy savings guarantee.
  • Identify areas for continuous professional development of the project development team. Mentor engineering team in subject matter expertise.
  • Liaise, at times, with customer staff and contractors on behalf of the company to ensure that the customer's concerns are being addressed
What You Will Bring
  • B.S. 4-year degree in energy, mechanical, or electrical engineering or equivalent. P.E. certification required.
  • One or more technology and industry certifications preferred (CEM, CEA, CMVP, LEED/AP etc.)
  • At least 10 years in project development experience, preferably within the performance contracting (ESCO) market.
  • Experience in managing teams of people.
  • Extensive experience with Excel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively including writing reports, communicating with team members and clients (in-person presentations and in writing), and setting project and business unit objectives.
  • In-depth and advanced building services knowledge including HVAC, Plumbing, Building Automation System, electrical distribution, and lighting systems.
  • Ability to work with team members to identify and develop the balance of project scopes of work (general trades such as doors, painting, drywall, building envelop (roof systems, walls, windows, doors), millwork, flooring, etc.
  • Pre-construction experience in developing performance contracting projects.
  • Familiarity with construction estimating practices.
  • Familiarity with creating bid packages for the subcontractor community.
  • Demonstrated experience performing savings calculations for energy upgrades and estimating annual energy savings via spreadsheets and purchased software (Carrier HAP, RETScreen, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of energy modeling/best practices/codes.
  • Experience in seeing projects through implementation.
  • Technical experience with energy efficiency technologies.
  • Experience with defining measurement and verification programs.
  • Analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to develop good working relationships.
  • Working within a construction company in a pre-construction role to define scopes and develop projects.
  • Ability to travel and perform after hours work on occasion when needed
Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Work a flexible schedule depending on office within the hours of 6am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional extended hours as required by demands of the project schedule. 
  • While performing the essential functions of this position, must regularly see, speak, and hear; frequently stand; walk; occasionally kneel and stoop; use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.
