Position Summary
The Controller will serve as a key member of the finance leadership team, reporting to the CFO (or equivalent). This individual will oversee all aspects of accounting integrity, compliance, and financial reporting while driving process efficiencies and supporting strategic growth. A strong background in construction accounting — including Percentage of Completion (POC) methods and ASC 606 revenue recognition standards — is essential for success in this role.
Lead and oversee all accounting functions: general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and project/job costing
Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes; ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP
Apply Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting and ASC 606 revenue recognition principles to ensure proper project revenue reporting and compliance
Partner with project managers and operations teams to monitor project profitability, margin reporting, and cash flow management
Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis; provide financial insight to leadership for decision-making
Strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with all policies and regulatory requirements
Coordinate external audits and tax filings, serving as the primary point of contact for external accounting partners
Implement process improvements and evaluate financial systems (ERP, construction-specific software) to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Mentor and develop accounting staff; build a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred
7–10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with 3–5 years in a leadership role
Experience in construction, facilities management, real estate development, or other project-based industries
Proven expertise in Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting and ASC 606 revenue recognition standards (AEC 606)
Strong working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting
Experience at a Big 4 accounting firm is a plus, but not required
Proficiency with construction-focused ERP/financial systems (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Procore Financials, or similar)
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams
Demonstrated success in leading, coaching, and developing accounting teams
