Position Overview
We’re seeking an experienced Estimator to play a critical role in preparing accurate and competitive project estimates. This position involves reviewing proposals, blueprints, specifications, and all related documentation to determine labor, material, and time requirements. The Estimator III will analyze these components to develop detailed cost projections and support the overall estimating strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Review proposals, blueprints, and specifications to determine all project cost components
Resolve pricing options and target appropriate price points for each project
Identify training opportunities for estimators and interns
Gather information from local government and private entities regarding permits, hearings, and other project-impacting factors
Assist in managing addendum logs and customer/client documentation
Conduct quantity takeoffs and prepare material summaries
Solicit trade partners and obtain bid estimates and schedule projections
Prepare vendor proposal comparisons and estimate summary sheets
Assist with data entry into estimating software systems
Build comprehensive project estimates
Prepare and coordinate Request for Proposal (RFP) documents
Coordinate schedules and incorporate schedule data into estimates
Participate in plan reviews, estimate review meetings, project discussions, and site investigations
Identify and solicit new bidders when needed and maintain bid documentation for future use
Capture and archive historical cost data
Support order entry, drafting, production, and layout processes for awarded projects
Communicate with sales representatives to clarify missing information and recommend cost-saving or value-improving alternatives
Interpret customer requirements and prepare or revise quotations based on takeoffs and specifications
Work from drawings, bid forms, takeoffs, emails, and verbal requests to prepare accurate quotes
Provide technical product support related to quotations
Report directly to the department supervisor
Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong mathematical and computer skills
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
Ability to break down construction operations into logical activity sequences
Strong team collaboration skills
Ability to clearly communicate reasoning in a fast-paced environment
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies
Ability to meet deadlines and work additional hours when necessary
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Effective verbal and written communication
Willingness to travel as needed
Strong work ethic
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field preferred
1–2 years of estimating experience preferred
