Mechanical Estimator

Position: Estimator
Reports to: VP - Construction
Status: Exempt

PURPOSE
The Estimator is responsible for preparing budgets and estimates for our business endeavors. This position will build and maintain relationships with a diverse group, including our internal project teams, sheet metal, insulation, controls, TAB, electrical and general trades construction partners, along with our current clientele, engineers, architects, consultants, and equipment vendors. This position will work within all phases of the budgeting process, including conceptual through schematic through final proposal stages and/or RFQ/P submission.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
 Accurately estimate targeted projects in commercial and industrial markets using digitized take-off software.
 Review and interpret plans and specifications to determine job-specific material, equipment, and labor requirements, and prepare bid documents/proposals.
 Attend pre-bid meetings to become familiar with unique project requirements and attend post-bid review meetings to negotiate/finalize scope, schedule, and price.
 Develop, enhance and maintain relationships with material suppliers and equipment vendors,
 Develop, enhance and maintain relationships with sheet metal, insulation, controls, TAB, electrical and general trades construction partners
 Develop, enhance and maintain relationships with new and existing clientele
 Work closely with the Vice President (Construction) and project managers to continuously improve current processes through analyzing past performance, and to develop/further the strategic goals of the construction department.
 Organize and maintain estimating labor/material cost databases to ensure accurate costs are consistently utilized on bids.
 Assist in project management tasks as needed, including budgeting, change order pricing, procurement, value engineering, and vendor selection.
 Collaborate with Project Managers in attending Project Kickoff and Percent Complete meetings.
 Assist in gathering information to complete Bid Qualification and Criteria requirements.
 Maintain and keep current bid list to send to subcontractors and vendors.
 Assist Project Manager with subcontractor and material/equipment vendor selection during bid process and before bids are awarded.
 Produce accurate scope letters and RFQ/P submittal packets
 Perform other duties as necessary to ensure a successful and efficient construction estimating/pre-construction phase.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
 Bachelor’s Degree in a mechanical or construction discipline, comparable trade school experience, or equivalent work experience.
 Minimum of 5 years of related experience in the construction industry.
 Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, and PowerPoint).
 Knowledgeable in plumbing and mechanical systems, and material types.
 Proficiency with QuickPen, Autobid, Fastpipe, or equivalent estimating software
 Proficiency with Procore, Autodesk or equivalent construction management software
 AutoCAD, and/or BIM (Revit) software experience a plus.
 Experience in design-build projects, utilizing conceptual estimating and multi-stage forecasting
 Ability to effectively dissect front-end bid documents, specifications and project requirements
 Familiarity with plumbing, HVAC, and boiler codes.
 Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure and adjust to changing situations.
 Requires initiative, attention to detail/accuracy, and an ability to prioritize and multi-task
 Requires effective written and verbal communication skills.
 Requires excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, and the ability to maintain a positive attitude while dealing with co-workers, clients, vendors, etc.
