Director of Business Development (Field Sales)
Our client is seeking a Director of Business Development who will be an integral and high-impact member of the go-to-market team; and who will collaborate with customers and partners in their effort to develop decarbonization projects and for whom our client’s financing platform is the enabler.  The role will focus on selling our client’s Sustainable Energy Service Agreement (SESA) to customers in the following sectors: commercial & industrial, private healthcare, and private higher education.  The role will work together with a customer’s engineers, sustainability office, and finance office, as well as third-party construction firms.  Team members may reside anywhere in the continental US but must be willing to travel to meet with customers, partners, and our client’s team members.  Such travel could be up to 50%, although it will not be prescribed nor formulaic, but instead performed as needed.  Within our client, the role will report to the Senior Vice President, who, themselves, is a member of the Leadership Team and who reports to the CEO.
Duties and Responsibilities
             
    • Self-generate prospects through one’s own network and other organic business-development activity
    • Receive prospects from Channel Partners, and treat them with exceptional service so as to close such projects and strengthen Channel relationships
    • Develop a deep understanding of our clients products and services
    • Follow our client’s project development process, including CRM best-practices
    • Stay up to date on industry developments and competitors
    • Collaborate with colleagues to generate pipeline and launch new products
    • Synthesize customer feedback and market trends back to our client’s leadership
    • Represent our client’s at industry events and conferences
    • Provide exceptional customer service throughout the sales process.

Qualifications
    • 10+ years’ experience in direct sales in the energy efficiency or clean energy industry, covering front end strategy, project development, construction, and ongoing management of large projects ($1M+)
    • History of successful quota attainment selling behind-the-meter energy efficiency projects to the following sectors: commercial & industrial, private healthcare, private higher-education
    • Ability to effectively communicate complex value propositions, including strong command of financial, construction and legal/contractual concepts and ability to explain those concepts in a straight-forward, effective manner
    • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to lead indirectly
    • Proficient in MS Excel and PowerPoint
    • Experience using SaaS CRM tools to track activity and targets
    • Bachelor’s degree required
