Consultant - Climate Partnership Programs

LOCAL GOVERNMENT EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and passionate Consultant on the Climate Partnership Programs team to help federal and local government clients implement their energy efficiency, decarbonization, and sustainability programs.

This position provides the opportunity to engage with industry leaders to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Climate Partnership Programs Consultant will support leading public-private partnership programs, including the Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Initiative, the Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR for Commercial Buildings Program and/or other association or nonprofit climate programs.


Essential Job Functions / Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as an account manager, for one or more sectors for DOE’s Better Buildings Program. Immediate need is for support in the local government and hospitality sectors.
  • Conduct outreach to build and maintain relationships with key market actors, including commercial and government building managers, industry associations, and utilities.
  • Contribute to the development and deployment of communications, outreach, and training resources, including case studies, webinars, in-person events, and other opportunities.
  • Serve as a source of technical assistance for program participants and maintaining detailed records in a customer relationship management system.
  • Coordinate with other team members and clients to develop local, regional, and national strategies to influence the market and increase participation in voluntary energy and decarbonization programs.
  • Conduct partner recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing support to maximize program participation.
  • Track state/local and national clean energy and climate policies that impact commercial and public sector buildings.
  • Conduct research and analysis of energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy, and decarbonization programs and policies.
  • Provide support to the Climate Partnership Program Manager on client and program management by contributing to accurate, on-time and on-budget high-quality deliverables, including the following types of support:
  • Support internal and external meetings by assisting in the preparation of agendas and taking notes to provide key takeaways and action items to the client manager.
  • Contribute ideas for the program, ideas/topics for program materials, and/or ways to improve program processes (internal and external.)
  • Create and assist in maintaining program trackers and databases to track various activities and timelines and contacts.
  • Support the logistics, preparation and delivery of conferences, meetings, webinars, and on-line trainings, working groups, and industry working groups.
  • Perform all other duties as needed and assigned.

  • Strong written communication skills with a propensity to write in a clear, concise manner to convey points effectively, creatively, and with the appropriate tone and professionalism.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including public speaking, to effectively interact with and build confidence among internal and external contacts.
  • High degree of initiative, proactiveness, drive, enthusiasm, energy, and follow through.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.
  • Advanced knowledge with online collaboration and file sharing tools, such as SharePoint and Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).


Required Education and/or Experience

  • 1 – 3 years of work experience in professional services and/or a consulting environment within local government
  • Experience supporting sustainability, energy and/or decarbonization programs
  • Experience in commercial real estate assets, in one or more of the following sectors is a plus: office, multifamily, retail, warehouse, senior care, medical office, and/or hospitality.
  • Experience with data collection and benchmarking.
