Job Summary:
Safety Director is responsible for creating and implementing policies, procedures, and initiatives that uphold the company’s commitment to unparalleled safety in the workplace every day. They will work with Senior Management and the different fields to plan out, prevent and address safety issues in the field and at the shop. The Safety Director will be a leader in safety throughout the entire company working to make sure we have a healthy safety culture and safe environment for our employees. They will work to make sure our process and operational safety, and DOT programs are all compliant with regulations. The Safety Director is in charge of making sure every employee understands and values workplace safety and will equip employees with the training and leadership necessary to accomplish this understanding. They will need to create programs that follow the company's Mission, Vision, and Values and build trust between the employees and leadership. Trust is needed if the Safety Director considers it necessary to shut down a job site the Senior Management and the employees will not question their judgment.
Job Description:
Primary Focus:
Create policies, procedures, initiatives, education/training, and motivation in the workforce that uphold the company’s commitment to unparalleled safety in the workplace every day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (include but are not limited to)
  • Lead the development, implementation, training, and measurement of the safety platform
  • Develop and implement  safety training program
  • Maintain, edit, create, implement and enforce safety policies and procedures
  • Implement awareness branding campaigns and techniques to instill a safety culture
  • Implement oversight process to ensure compliance with safety policy and procedures
  • Develop and enforce safety discipline
  • Act as “safety motivator” for management and employees ensuring safety remains an active part of company culture
  • Facilitate employee growth and development with training and educational programs to enhance employee capabilities and expertise in safety. E.g. classes in fall protection, ladder safety and field safety
  • Develop and enforce a safety  discipline program
  • Empower employees to behave safely throughout the company
  • Develop and review jobsite specific policies and procedures with job management and crew
  • Enforce and follow up with visits and collaborative training
  • Monitor regular safety meetings whether for company or job site specific
  • Compile reports addressing effectiveness of current policies and overall safety of the company or job site
  • Facilitate and critically analyze immediate incident investigation, root cause, site remediation and closure of corrective actions
  • Implement rigorous oversight process to ensure ongoing corporate compliance with all applicable safety and environmental regulations and contract requirements including a continuing audit schedule
  • Maintain specific reporting and record keeping requirements of OSHA and other safety regulatory organizations
  • Appropriately allocate safety resources throughout the company
  • Hold regular safety training classes for employee certification
  • Accurately track and maintain employee safety certifications and expirations
Education Qualifications and Experience:
  • 5+ years of progressive safety leadership – preferably in the construction industry with fleet safety experience
  • 5+ years Manager/Supervisor experience
  • Statistical analysis of incident data
  • Creative and assertive – motivator of innovative ideas
  • Autonomous work habits
  • Strong safety passion and appreciation of the challenges of managing safety programs
  • Excellent verbal, written, and relationship building skills
  • Organization, even when under pressure
  • Available to be on call for emergencies
  • Able to handle stress and job demands
  • Work cooperatively with others
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety preferred
  • Experience with incident investigation techniques
  • Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, DOL and other federal, state and local health and safety laws
  • Safety Management Systems experience is a plus
  • Certifications (CSP, ASP, CRSP, CHST, CUSA or similar) preferred
  • OSHA 10 and 30 hour certified
