Energy Engineering and Evaluation Manager (Northeast / New England Region)

We perform a wide variety of work, including heat pump pilot program design and operation, utility program evaluation, and solar PV third-party inspections. We perform complex energy metering, energy auditing, and data analysis. Our clients rely on us to provide innovative approaches to solve difficult challenges. We have grown 40% per year for the last five years.
Position Summary
The Energy Engineering and Evaluation Manager has a leadership role in our growing energy services company. They take a client facing lead on projects, working with the owners to develop strategies for organizing and selling work, and supervising and training engineering staff. They have the resources to succeed, including excellent and enthusiastic staff, over $1M in metering equipment, a flexible work environment, and a deep bench of clients. The manager’s work portfolio includes designing project approaches, performing audits and metering studies, and writing proposals and technical reports. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead utility program evaluation studies
Build and manage client relationships
Lead teams to install metering equipment and study residential, multi-family, and commercial environments, capturing equipment operating times, flows, energy consumption, temperatures, etc.
Use metering data to determine equipment performance and to evaluate utility efficiency programs
Supervise engineering staff
Build strong relationships with partners, including contractors, subcontractors, and equipment manufacturers
Travel one-third of the time, including day trips, primarily in New England and NYS
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or energy engineering
Experience
Highly Desired
5 years’ experience in an energy or mechanical engineering role
Experience working on energy conserving or fossil fuel reducing equipment (e.g., heat pumps, solar PV)
Experience working with utility-sponsored programs in an evaluation or implementation role
Preferred
Experience working with or managing staff working with data analysis tools, e.g., Python, MATLAB, R
Knowledge of statistics
Experience managing 3-5 staff
Certifications and Licenses
Highly Desired
Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) accreditations (e.g., CEM, CEA, CMVP)
Engineer in Training (EIT)
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
In-depth knowledge of utility services, particularly evaluation, measurement and verification (EM&V)
In-depth knowledge of energy efficiency equipment and methodologies
Demonstrated ability to successfully communicate across all levels of clients’ organizations
Demonstrated ability to develop Excel-based energy modeling of mechanical and electrical systems
Technical report and proposal writing
Demonstrated ability to shift priorities quickly and effectively; a history of being open to change
Hard working, able to make timely and effective decisions
History of meeting or exceeding customer expectations and developing positive customer relationships
Demonstrated ability to hold others accountable to high quality work; proven ability to establish and monitor quality measures as well as take corrective actions
