Outside Sales Representative – Seattle Metro Area

Overview:
A Manufacturers’ Representative with over 85 years of experience serving the commercial plumbing industry in the Pacific Northwest. Our core function is to support our vendors with efforts to drive specification support and work with our trade associates at wholesale and contractor levels. This is a hands-on sales position and plays an important strategic role as part of our 5-state executive team. It involves preparing and delivering technical presentations, explaining products to customers in the office and in the field, helping clients be successful with their plumbing projects, closing the sale and building repeat business, and sharing what’s successful to be leveraged across the larger team.

Role includes:
  • Promoting our brand in the market to include company depth of experience, product offering, and knowledgebase
  • Having a good understanding of all product lines, and being an expert on select products
  • Knowing how to prioritize and selectively nurture sales opportunities and bring them to a close
  • Having the mindset of:
    • A student, managing your resources (and sometimes lacking resources) to become an expert
    • A teacher, conveying relevant product information on a timely basis, such that helps customers achieve project success
    • A relationship builder of strong and long-term connections
    • A diplomat, managing complex and sometime competing objectives and relationships
    • A problem solver, anticipating and resolving conflict before it occurs, when possible, and when it’s unavoidable, run directly to problems (vs hiding) with your sleeves rolled up ready to jump into the fray
    • A team player/manager, collaborating with and managing available resources for a seamless successful solution for both factory vendor and our mutual customers
Market Segment:
  • Owners, Architects, and Engineers:
  • Support their design effort with the appropriate products
  • Anticipate problems that may occur in the field during construction
  • Educate why our products belong in their specifications
  • Contractors (plumbing, civil – sitework, roofing, other)
Responsibilities:
  • Product technical champion on select products – knowing the product and solving customer problems is one of the quickest ways to get the next sale
  • Plan out key appointments weeks in advance, to include sales calls, product training, relationship building events
  • Managing the installation and operation of our products in large complex construction projects from both an operational and sales standpoint
  • Collaborate with team to provide the best end user experience, depending on the product, project, and customer
  • Research sales opportunities from networking, planning sessions, Dodge Reports, etc. – to generate sales leads
  • Host Regional Manager visits from the Factories – to include setting up meaningful sales meetings that demonstrate our strength in the market
  • Build a strong network among your Architect, Engineer, Contractor, and Distributor customers, that rely on you as their source of reliable information
  • This is an important and strategic role in the company, one that can develop and grow over time as skills/interests/relationships solidify.
Qualifications:
  • Outside sales experience with construction-related products
  • Specific commercial plumbing experiences a big plus
  • 4-year college degree preferred and/or experience in the specific Rep role equivalent
